The house was shrouded in darkness and silence. Holding on to the banister for support, I made my way up the wooden staircase. I could hear my heart beating wildy in my chest. I wanted to dash up the stairs and switch on all the lights, but I could not find the switches. So I walked as fast I possibly could without tripping, every little creak startled me. My ears were keenly listening for sounds that were out of the ordinary. I finally reached the top of the stairs, turned to my left and walked down the darkend passage.
